- !Enable two-factor authentication
- !Scan your device for malware
If You Gave Info
- ⚠Change all passwords immediately
- ⚠Contact your bank if you entered payment info
- ⚠Monitor your accounts for unauthorized activity
- ⚠File a report at reportfraud.ftc.gov
What This Looks Like
Fake Bank Security Alert
You receive an email: "URGENT: Your Bank of America account has been locked due to suspicious activity. Click here to verify your identity within 24 hours or your account will be permanently closed."
Red Flags
- ⚠Creates urgency with a deadline
- ⚠Threatens account closure
- ⚠Asks you to click a link to "verify" your identity
- ⚠Generic greeting instead of your name
Safe Response
Do not click the link. Log into your bank account directly by typing the URL in your browser. Call the number on the back of your card to check if there is a real issue.
Fake Package Delivery Notice
You get a text: "Your package could not be delivered. Reschedule delivery here: https://usps-redelivery-notice.tk/track"
Red Flags
- ⚠Suspicious domain (.tk) — not the real USPS website
- ⚠No tracking number or specific package details
- ⚠Unexpected — you may not have ordered anything
Safe Response
Do not click the link. Go directly to usps.com and enter your tracking number there. If you did not order anything, ignore the message.
