⚠Change all passwords from a different device
⚠Contact your bank if you paid them
⚠Have a trusted technician check your computer

What This Looks Like

Browser Pop-up Scam

A full-screen pop-up appears on your computer: "WARNING: Your computer is infected with 3 viruses! Call Microsoft Support NOW at 1-888-555-0123 to prevent data loss. DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW."

Red Flags

⚠Real virus alerts come from your antivirus software, not browser pop-ups
⚠Includes a phone number to call — real alerts do not do this
⚠Uses ALL CAPS and exclamation marks to create panic
⚠Tells you not to close the window

Safe Response

Close the browser tab or restart your computer. Do not call the number. Run a scan with your actual antivirus software. The pop-up itself is the scam.
